Sodemo BMW V8 Le Mans engine

French engine manufacturer Sodemo is to turn its attention towards Le Mans for 2009. Under the stewardship of Guillaume Maillard, its new owner and managing director, the Magny-Cours-based outfit plans to take advantage of regulations which allow GT2 homologated engines into LMP2. Competing directly against the established suppliers, Sodemo aims to be the first to use the recently introduced 4.0-litre BMW 90-degree V8 unit – as fitted to the latest M3 – as the basis of its attack. “At a time when budgets are even harder to find, the project will incorporate as many off-theshelf BMW parts as possible but without compromising performance,” says Maillard.
