Steve Francis
Few Dirt Late Model drivers know more about championship heartbreak than Steve Francis. The Ashland, Kentucky, veteran has had to put on a fake runner-up smile after too many razor-close tour battles. In 2001, Rick Eckert defeated him for the UDTRA series title by a single point; in 2004 his late-season charge for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series crown fell thirteen points short to Scott Bloomquist. And in 2005, Francis lost the Outlaws championship to Billy Moyer on a crushing tiebreaker. So many what-ifs. So much frustration. The disappointments, however, never prompted Francis to question his racing fate. He held steadfast to the belief that his day in the spotlight on a national series would come.
