DRAG RACER magazine celebrates the entire spectrum of quarter-mile performance. Each blockbuster issue can contain both Sportsman and Pro racer features. Inside, you'll find an interesting mix of technical subjects that serve the DIY audience and the fans in the stands, all at the same time. A total editorial revamp began in 2006 and brings a new, more passionate direction that's proven to offer a much greater response rate for advertisers, when compared to the competition. In planning each issue, we realize the value and importance of every page. As such, each story is carefully analyzed for merit, whether it's a driver profile or tech related piece. The Editor of DRAG RACER is always on the lookout for interesting engine combinations - everything from electronically-injected four cylinders to the big-inch, Sonny Leonard Chevy "Semi-Hemi." That's what makes drag racing so addictive, as there are literally hundreds of ways to go fast. We encourage you to come grow with DRAG RACER. We've made great strides since our revamp, and we intend to stay "up on the tire" in 2008 and beyond, as we continue our second decade of taking you inside the world's "Original Extreme Sport."

Famoso drag strip

Over the last 49 years, the mere mention of a few simple words like “Famoso, Bakersfield, or March Meet” would bring a smile to the face of any drag racing die-hard faster than a Vegas showgirl. The greatest of the greats have all raced at the March Meet, and this out-of-the-way drag strip has certainly taken on legendary proportions. The feeling of history overwhelms you as soon as you cruise through the gates. Garlits traveled all the way from Florida in 1959 for the first March Meet — the U.S. Fuel and Gas Championships — but Art Chrisman won the event. Later, Tom McEwen, Carl Olson and many, many others made household names for themselves at this fabled race track. The stories and winners are legendary. Ref: Famoso drag strip Bakersfield Don Garlits Art Chrisman Tom McEwen Carl Olson John Blake Bowser Auto Club Famoso Raceway Tony Waters Tim Beebe Danny Ongais Tony Nancy Hand Grenade Harry Hibler James Warren Marvin Rifchin Ernie Hashim Bobby Langley Jack Chrisman Joe Amato Bill Coburn Walt Rhoades Don Moody  Butch Maas
